Exercise
OK, so here’s where we all try to kid ourselves..
If we intake more calories through food and drink than we burnt through everyday life and exercise, then we’re going to put on weight. Sounds fairly simple doesn’t it?
So if we carry on eating the way we always eat, then we have to do more exercise to get rid of some of those excess calories. But do we have time?
My average day:
- 04.50 – 05.20 Get up, wash, dress and leave the house by 05.20
- 05.40 – 07.15 Get the train and read /sleep on the train until
- 07.20 – 07.40 Get the underground across town, walk for 5 minutes to the office
- 07.40 – 12.00 Sit down at my PC all morning, sometimes getting up for a coffee from the coffee machine.
- 12.00 – 12.30 Lunch. Sometimes a sandwich from the office trolley, sometimes a stroll for a sandwich to the local supermarket.. Sometimes a stroll to the pub and a couple of pints of beer.
- 12.30 – 17.00 Sit down at my PC all afternoon, sometimes getting up for a coffee from the coffee machine.
- 17.00 – 19.40 Underground, train and home for dinner at around 20.00
- 20.00 – 22.00 Sit and watch TV and go to bed..
Lets face it, not the most healthy of lifestyles and it is SO obvious that I really don’t have any time for extra exercise! At least that’s the excuse that I always use..
- So how about getting off the underground one stop earlier and walking the extra distance to work?
- How about using the stairs up 4 floors instead of the lift?
- If I must buy a sandwich or lunchtime snack off the trolley, how about going for a walk at lunchtime instead of sitting at my desk and surfing the ‘net?
- Then there’s a walk back to that 2nd stop underground station again..
OK, so eating dinner at 8pm really is too late, but it’s the only time that we get together t chat over the events of the day and socialize a bit before bed, but I’m sure there’s something that could be done to eat a little earlier perhaps.
See? I’ve just talked myself out of all the excuses that I thought I had for not exercising. I remember years ago that I used to go for a swim every evening, and although it was difficult to get started, after a short while I was swimming one, sometimes two miles each evening (depending on how bored I was and who there was in the pool the ‘chase’
It would appear that there are opportunities to exercise almost everywhere, and it’s really just a case of getting started and seeing the benefits. Once the weight starts coming off and you can see the benefits, it really is all worth it!
